Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pudica)

Sensitive Plant came to Australia with the white settlers. It has spread to the tropical North much to the annoyance of farmers. The small shrub grows up to one metre high and has defensive prickles on its shoots. Its green leaves are sensitive to lightest touch or warmth. They can shut within a fraction of a second, exposing dry-looking thorns, to camouflage itself against animals that could eat it. The Sensitive Plant has round, pink, hairy flower heads.
